June 25 - Tour Day 4
Tour Day 4 focused on "The City of London," one of two "cities" within the larger boundaries of the London metropolitan area. We started out visiting Christopher Wren's magnificent St. Paul's Cathedral, which provided our first Wow Moment of the day, as we rounded a corner and saw this:

Our walking tour of The City followed from there, and we got a a wonderfully interesting narrative of the history of the area, including its role as a financial center and home to a crazy mix of historic and modern architecture. The tour concluded with lunch at The Counting House, located in a former bank building.

After a lunch, we were free to explore on our own. We crossed the Millennium Bridge and enjoyed a glass of wine and the festive atmosphere along the Thames outside of the Tate Modern. It was an excellent bit of people watching! We stepped into the Tate for a few minutes, but soon realized that we were museum-ed out for the time being and decided to head back to the hotel, stopping at the grocery store for some snacks. That night, we went to our third theatre performance of our trip, The 39 Steps, at the Criterion Theatre in Picadilly. What fun!
