June 23 - Tour Day 2
On Tour Day 2, we started with a ride on the Tube to the Green Park stop. From there, we made our way past St. James' Palace, and then stopped for a look at Buckingham Palace. We moved back down the Mall and saw Clarence House (Prince Charles' residence) and a procession of the Horse Guards (above) before continuing towards Admiralty Arch on our way to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery.
We had a very brief visit to the National Gallery (the Gallery is free, so it was easy to return at a later time) and then split up for lunch. One of the nearby options was the Cafe in the Crypt at St. Martin-in-the-Fields. The novelty of it called to us, so we went there and then visited the church sanctuary as they were getting ready for an afternoon concert.
Following lunch, we headed over to the Churchill War Rooms & Museum. The amount of information in this place cannot be understated. This is a must-see for anyone who can't get enough of Winston Churchill and the British role in World War II. For us, it was interesting, but completely overwhelming. Following the museum, we walked past #10 Downing Street and the government buildings of Whitehall on our way to Leicester Square and Picadilly, where we caught a bus to our dinner at Karma in West Kensington.
